Things You Should Look Out For When Buying A Golf GPS System

By Tim Smith

Without the assistance of an experienced caddie helping you on the golf course, there's often a lot of guesswork involved in determining the distance to the hole. The latest generation of Golf GPS devices are the perfect companion to improve your overall experience of the game. They allow you to navigate easily around thousands of pre-saved courses as well as having the ability to provide valuable data including the length of your last shot and the distance to selected targets.

However the price of a quality Golf GPS unit can range from 100 to over 500, so it makes sense to thoroughly research the type of Golf GPS device will suit you before committing to one or the other.

Below are a few important questions to ask yourself if you are considering buying a new Golf GPS unit.

* What sort of data do you require form a Golf GPS system?

Most Golf GPS companies will most likely allow you to request course not yet mapped, however the time it takes these to be added to the database could be a long process. Check with the manufacturer that the courses you wish to use it for are within the system. Good quality GOLF GPS devices can offer up to 200,000 European courses so it shouldn't be too hard to find the course you're looking for.

* How would you like your information presented?

An obvious question, but make sure you do check that the Gold GPS device you want actually provides data for the golf courses you regularly play on. Most Golf GPS devices using the European software provide information for over 200,000 courses across the continent so it shouldn't be hard to find any major course. Keep in mind that if your favourite course isn't on your desired system, the majority of manufacturers do allow you to request courses which aren't mapped.

* How would you like to see your data displayed?

Not all Golf GPS devices are a one off cost, as some require you to pay an annual fee or sign up to a paid subscription service as well as those which request a download fee. The best thing to do is check each manufactures service before buying.
