Canon ImageClass D320 - Ushering The New Dawn Of Performance Printing

By Ben Pate

The Canon ImageClass D320 is an excellent printer as it offers both high quality black and white printing, as well as a fast printing speed at a maximum of 15 pages per minute. This is a multi-functioning machine as it also includes a digital copier. Superior monochromatic printing is produced by the ImageClass D320 Compatible Printer Toner at 1200 x 600 dpi resolution. The copying has the option to enlarge images up to 200% or reduce them down. The largest size paper this machine uses is legal size.

This printer/copier is very fast and economical to use. It uses a single cartridge system that makes usage and operation much easier compared to two cartridge systems that frequently need to be replaced at different times. The paper tray holds 250 sheets. The right cover can be opened to install the cartridge or remove paper jams. The copying surface and cover are made of paten glass.

A S35 cartridge is included with the printer and this cartridge is a regular cartridge. Many times the printer will come with a starter cartridge that only lasts for a short period of time. Not so with the Canon ImageClass D320 Printer Toner Cartridge included in this set up. Besides a cartridge a CD-ROM with software, power cord, cassette/multi-purpose tray and documentation kit are all included with the printer.

There are additional features besides enlargement and reduction and these include a multi-stack bypass feeder and an electronic collating option. The printer/copier connects to a computer running Windows through a USB cable. The cable is not included with the printer. The printer also has some networking capabilities.

It is very easy to install the printer when running Windows 98. However if your operating system is a later version you may have to direct the software to the specific file. Many customers have stated that the software does not automatically find the drivers on later operating systems. If you do not have advanced computer skills this step can be difficult.

If the machine is not far enough from the wall and has proper ventilation then the high temperatures produced can cause the paper to curl. This is very rare but has been found to happen. To avoid paper jamming when producing two sided copies you will have to manually feed the paper in, but this is standard for most two sided printers.

This is a black and white printer and can only handle the most basic of graphics. Monochromatic printing uses a laser, rotating mirrors, drum and toner to produce an image on the page. The laser is beamed to onto the drum, which causes the toner to be attracted to the beamed image. Then high temperatures are used to melt the toner and transfer it to the paper.
