Gigabyte Motherboards- Learn More About This Top Rated Tech Today

By Andrew Johnson

Gigabyte motherboards are some of the best motherboards around and can be purchased at excellent prices. The motherboard is basically the brains behind a computer system, seeing as it is the central processing portion of a computer. It was once composed of a mainframe that had parts connected by the backplane. This set up was altered later by moving the peripheral functions into one main location; on the motherboard.

Overall, a motherboard is basically a printed circuit capable of expanding its performance. In the 1980s, motherboards were called ICs and they worked great for support of peripherals that were of a very low speed; serial and parallel ports, mouse, keyboard, and the floppy disk drive. Once the late 1990s rolled around, these computer brains were in charge of a lot more. They needed to support a large range of storage, video, audio, and networking functions.

Expansion cards weren't able to be used for this support to occur, and it was greatly needed for computer and 3D gaming graphics. Two well known companies once gave out schematic drawings on upgrading personal computers. They provided information on how to use a third party motherboard and combine it with a personal computer for an upgrade of the system. These motherboards were actually supposed to be used for building a new computer, but they also could work for upgrading systems.

Motherboards provide all the connections needed for the internal components of a computer to be able to communicate with one another. They aren't only found in computers though, but they are also in clocks, stopwatches, mobile phones, and many other electronic devices.

Computers aren't the only electronic devices that use motherboards either, they can also be found inside of clocks, mobile phones, and stopwatches. The motherboard stores the microprocessing system, the main memory, and other important components as well. It also reads any external devices; video controllers, external storage, or speakers.

They are able to be connected through external cables or cards. Most newer computers have started integrating these peripherals directly into the motherboard. There is a group of circuits, which are all integrated, that are in charge of working together as a single unit. This is called a chipset and is found on the motherboard of a computer, as well as on an expansion card. It controls the the communication that goes on between the computer's processor and any external device that has been connected.

Motherboards not only include the chipset, but also one or more sockets, slots for the main memory, non-volatile memory chips, a clock generator, power connectors, and expansion card slots. Today, almost all motherboards include connectors and logic support for devices that are used often; namely a mouse and keyboard. Gigabyte motherboards have been around since the company started in 1986 and they are still leading the market in graphic accelerators and motherboards.
